ASUS Malaysia announces 64-bit ASUS Fonepad 7 (FE375CG)

ASUS Malaysia recently released one of the first of their planned 64-bit Intel Atom processor powered tablets with the ASUS Fonepad 7 (FE375CG). The tablet follows the slim bezel 7-inch display design as before while featuring dual-SIM capabilities, 3G connectivity and phone functions. Other tech specs include a 64-bit 1.83GHz Intel Atom Z3560 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB / 16GB storage + 5GB ASUS Webstorage, 7-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixel screen resolution, 5MP PixelMaster rear camera, 2MP front camera and Android 4.4 KitKat. The tablet will feature the ASUS ZenUI and weigh in at just 299g. It is available in black and white for now. The retail pricing according to Dynamics Distribution is set at RM649 but we've seen it being sold on the local market for as low as RM599. The new range of 64-bit Intel Atom processors should bring increased performance and better graphics but we'll be able to say more after we have the review unit for testing. In the meantime, check out the video below:

  • Rumours: ASUS PadFone keyboard dock coming back?

Rumours: ASUS PadFone keyboard dock coming back?

Now this is a rumour we really want to be true as leaked images and documents for an ASUS PadFone attached to a keyboard dock seem to indicate that we may soon get keyboard functionality with the next ASUS PadFone. The ASUS PadFone combines a smartphone with a tablet and initially came out with a keyboard dock, but this feature was not included in recent PadFone devices. Tech specs for the ASUS Mobile Dock Keyboard include a 450 mAh battery pack, bluetooth connectivity, a built-in trackpad and a full QWERTY keyboard with what appear to be island-style keys. Unfortunately, the dock does not offer any extended battery features or an extra SD card, but these features could come in future versions of the ASUS Mobile Dock Keyboard. No news how much it would cost or any specific Malaysia release dates, but we assume you'll see it with the next ASUS PadFone release. While the returning keyboard dock is great news, we'd be even more thrilled if ASUS would just go and make keyboard docks for all of their tablet range including the ASUS FonePad and MeMo Pad tablets.

ASUS originally made the announcement for other ASUS FonePad 7 versions at MWC 2014, with the dual-SIM version being one of them. It should appear in Malaysia very soon for RM699. While the overall look and feel is the same, certain other tech specs and features are also different as this dual-SIM version carries a 1.2GHZ Intel Atom Z2520 processor (the earlier ASUS FonePad 7 had a 1.6GHZ Intel Atom Z2560 processor). Storage for the dual-SIM version has also been cut down to 8GB.

ASUS FonePad 7 review - Excellent budget 3G tablet with nearly all-in-one capabilities

The ASUS FonePad 7 is generally known better for it's budget price than for it's performance but the 2014 edition promises to not only fix issues in the previous version but make it even better. • Asus teases dual-boot tablet and 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch devices for CES 2014

Asus teases dual-boot tablet and 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch devices for CES 2014

Following their motto "In Search of Incredible" Asus are releasing teaser videos of upcoming devices to be revealed at CES 2014. With CES 2014 just around the corner on 6 January 2014, Asus have released two teaser videos hinting at a dual-boot Android and Windows tablet along with devices with 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch screens. The first teaser video shows off the Statue of Liberty holding up a tablet flashing green and blue, which in terms of OS, probably mean Android green and Windows blue. The second teaser video shows variously coloured and numbered balls falling down from the sky in Taipei, with closeups on balls with the number 4, 5 and 6. While Asus could be gunning for a 6-inch tablet, it seems more likely that the 4-inch, 5-inch and 6-inch devices would be smartphones, possibly following the Asus Fonepad or Padfone. Check out the teaser trailers for yourself in this article.

  • Asus FonePad 7 officially announced

    Asus FonePad 7 officially announced

While it was leaked complete with tech specs, the Asus FonePad 7 finally gets the official announcement. Going for more or less the same look and feel of tablet with phone capabilities, the FonePad 7 takes up where the original Asus FonePad left off. Featuring a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 with tech specs that include a 7-inch 1280 x 800 pixel screen, a 5MP rear camera, 8GB/16GB/32GB storage, 1.2MP front camera, 10.5mm thinness, weighs 340g and has a 10-hour battery, the FonePad 7 ups the internals somewhat by offering the better screen. Hopefully the revamp won't see too much of an increase in price as the original FonePad was rather well known for it's budget capabilities. Unfortunately, there isn't any news yet on pricing for the Asus FonePad 7 and no Malaysia release dates too. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as to any new developments.
