Apple iPad Air Review - Thinner, Lighter and Future-proofed

The Apple iPad Air is the 5th generation tablet in Apple's leading 9.7-inch display tablet range. As the latest in the bunch it packs in the latest and probably most powerful mobile chipset and processor in the Apple stable along with a much improved, thinner and lighter profile. Does it deserve the Air name? Yes. Yes it does. Is it worth your time and money? Well, that depends a lot on your preference for screen size. Read on for all that you need to know about the Apple iPad Air.

  • Apple iPad mini with Retina Display (iPad mini 2) review

Apple iPad mini with Retina Display (iPad mini 2) review

When Apple first came out with the Apple iPad mini we loved it's better design as the slimmer bezels and narrower look made it awesome to handle. However, while the 7.9-inch screen was still very good in itself, we wondered why Apple didn't put in a Retina Display like it had with the most recent version (at the time) of the Apple iPad. Turns out, they were waiting for the next generation Apple iPad mini 2 or as Apple wants to call it, the Apple iPad mini with Retina Display. The smaller Apple tablet that could is now a lot more capable as Apple have not only added on the expected (and much wanted) Retina Display, but have also included a very capable hardware upgrade. Read on to see our full review of the Apple iPad mini with Retina Display.

Goldgenie offering gold-plated Apple iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display

Fresh after their gold-plated Apple iPhone 5S, Goldgenie are now shifting to larger devices with gold-plated versions of the Apple iPad Air and Apple iPad mini with Retina Display. As usual, Goldgenie are offering the tablets in a choice of 24k gold, rose gold and platinum. Prices start from $2124 (RM6755) and can reach as high as $10000+ (RM31790) as you can further customize the device with crystals, diamonds and other precious bling. You can also expect the tablets to also weigh a fair bit more than the normal tablets. As usual, there was no Malaysia release dates or pricing but they'd probably ship here if you throw enough money at them. As a show of how much more premium the gold-plated iPads will be, Goldgenie are also offering premium black wooden boxes rather than the standard brown.

  • Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display (iPad Mini 2) officially announced

Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display (iPad Mini 2) officially announced

The 2nd generation Apple iPad Mini also was recently announced but unlike the iPad Air, only gets the standard Apple name of Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display. Yep, finally, Apple has refreshed the iPad Mini with a Retina Display, fulfilling the demands of Apple iPad Mini tablet users around the world. But guess what, they've also added in a little surprise in the form of a brand new 64-bit Apple A7 processor with the M7 motion coprocessor. Again, no Touch ID fingerprint scanner under the Home button. Rather than talk about the thinner and lighter iPad Mini, Apple have instead chosen to talk about the obvious specs of the Retina Display. This is perhaps because the new iPad Mini with Retina Display is actually thicker at 7.5mm (the previous version was 7.2mm) and heavier at 331g (the previous version was 308g). This isn't so obvious when held in the hand, but if you line the two versions up together and look closely, you'll see the difference. Tech specs and features for the Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display include:

    • 64-bit A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor
    • 16GB / 32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage
    • 7.9-inch Retina Display (2048 x 1536 pixels, 326 ppi pixel density, LED-backlit, IPS, Multi-touch, Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating)
    • 5MP rear camera (autofocus, face detection, backside illumination, f/2.4 aperture) + 1.2MP FaceTime front camera
    • Supports WiFi + Bluetooth + (4G LTE + GPS (Cellular version))
    • Supports dual microphones + dual antennas
    • 134.7 x 200 x 7.5mm | 331g / 341g (Celluar version)
    • 10 hour battery
    • Apple iOS 7

Apple iPad Air (iPad 5) officially announced, most tech specs and rumours confirmed

Apple recently announced the latest version of their Apple iPad tablet. Not very keen on numbering this 5th generation tablet either, Apple have called it the iPad Air mainly because it is much thinner an lighter than previous versions. While it has the same 9.7-inch Retina Display, the iPad Air has slimmer bezels and a thinner overall look, confirming earlier rumours and leaks that it would look more like the iPad Mini. While it doesn't have any Touch ID fingerprint scanner it does pack in the new 64-bit Apple A7 processor and chipset with M7 coprocessor making it as powerful as the Apple iPhone 5S. Other tech specs and features for the Apple iPad Air include the following:

    • 64-bit A7 chip with M7 motion coprocessor
    • 16GB / 32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage
    • 9.7-inch Retina Display (2048 x 1536 pixels, 264 ppi pixel density, LED-backlit, IPS, Multi-touch, Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating)
    • 5MP rear camera (autofocus, face detection, backside illumination, f/2.4 aperture) + 1.2MP FaceTime front camera
    • Supports WiFi + Bluetooth + (4G LTE + GPS (Cellular version))
    • Supports dual microphones + dual antennas
    • 169.5 x 240 x 7.5mm | 469g / 478g (Celluar version)
