  • LG Odin octa-core AnTuTu benchmark reveals big.LITTLE architecture

LG Odin octa-core AnTuTu benchmark reveals big.LITTLE architecture

The upcoming LG Odin octa-core chipset and processor rumoured to be used in the just as rumoured LG G3 has recently been benchmarked on AnTuTu. Scoring 27184, the reason for the lower performance (the LG G2 scored 35069) could be because the LG Odin was just clocked at 100MHz-1.0GHz. Considering that the Snapdragon 800 on the LG G2 is clocked at 2.26GHz we should be able to expect even better performance from the LG Odin. Then again, the higher clock speed does come at the price of a shorter battery life, so if the LG Odin could reach the same performance but offer better extended battery life, this would also be a good deal in our opinion. The benchmark also revealed that rather than run all 8 of the cores at the same time, the AnTuTu benchmark reveals that it is running the ARM big.LITTLE architecture where only one set of 4 cores are running at a time. Graphics performance was exceptionally high though, as it uses the PowerVR Series 6 GPU which is the same series used on the Apple iPhone 5S. Other tech specs and features include a 1080 x 1920 display resolution, 2GB of RAM, 4GB of storage and Android 4.2.2. The rather small 4GB of storage is to be expected though as this is probably still very much a prototype device. No news about Malaysia release dates or pricing for the LG G3 but with it just at prototype stage for now, it seems likely it could be in Q2 or Q3 of 2014.

  • Apple iPhone 5S battery tests completed, some improvement

Apple iPhone 5S battery tests completed, some improvement

The Apple iPhone 5S has been out in the market for quite some time. Bringing about a fairly big hardware upgrade over the previous Apple iPhone 5 with the 64-bit A7 processor and chipset along with a number of other upgrades, benchmarks of the iPhone 5S have been quite good in terms of performance. However, it has taken some time for complete battery benchmarks to be done. These battery benchmarks have since been done and the short answer is that the iPhone 5S is a bit more energy efficient than the iPhone 5 with a 5 hour or so battery life compared to the previous version. Bear in mind that this is on really heavy usage and that usuallyt, on normal usage, most users can expect about 10 hours or so worth of battery time on a single charge. This still isn't good enough to take out the battery life champion nor some of the other smartphones in the same price range but it does offer some measure of improvement over the previous iPhone.

  • Goldgenie covers Apple iPhone 5S with crystal

Goldgenie covers Apple iPhone 5S with crystal

Right after they made the 24-carat gold plated Apple iPad Air and Apple iPad mini with Retina Display, Goldgenie have come out with a 24-carat gold plated Apple iPhone 5S almost completely covered in Swarovski Crystals. This new bling covered version is called the Apple iPhone 5S Supernova with the 16GB versions costing RM20225. While it isn't the first time someone has come out with a crystal covered smartphone the sheer number of crystals on the Goldgenie Apple iPhone 5S Supernova is almost too much, but if you like a shiny disco ball smartphone then this is perfect for you. You can get the 32GB version for another RM500 or so and the 64GB for another RM1000 or so. As usual, Goldgenie will also include a nicely laquered Cherry Oak wooden box to put the bling encrusted gold Supernova Apple iPhone. Check out the pics for yourself in the article.

  • TYPO Keyboard turns your Apple iPhone into a BlackBerry, coming CES 2014

TYPO Keyboard turns your Apple iPhone into a BlackBerry, coming CES 2014

If you have the money and want a tech device, why not invest in it and build it? This seems to have been the idea behind the TYPO Keyboard which is a QWERTY keyboard add-on for touchscreen smartphones like the Apple iPhone 5 and 5S. Backed by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, who has already sunk in $1 million into the venture, the TYPO Keyboard looks a lot like the QWERTY keyboards you'll find on a BlackBerry device, complete with contoured keys and a backlight for typing in dim or low-light conditions. The add-on covers up the Apple iPhone Home button making the iPhone longer and thicker but still allowing the use of auto-correct while also offering quick-access to currency keys. So far the TYPO Keyboard is only usable for the Apple iPhone 5 and 5S but it is being developed for other touchscreen smartphones as well. While there isn't any Malaysia release date, this is mainly because the TYPO Keyboard is due for release at CES 2014 at a price tag of $99 (RM318).

  • Rumours: Apple iWatch coming for men and women in 2014?

Rumours: Apple iWatch coming for men and women in 2014?

The rumour that Apple may be making a smartwatch called the Apple iWatch in 2014 is getting more meat and details as other rumours pop up. One of the latest is that we may be getting two types or sizes of Apple iWatch come this 2014, a 1.7-inch Apple iWatch for men and a 1.3-inch Apple iWatch for women. This rumour comes courtesy of analyst David Hsieh who has been quite accurate so far about previous Apple products. While this prediction does not mention how exactly each Apple iWatch may look or what tech specs they may have, it is a very logical conclusion. Traditionally, watches are very different in terms of size for men and women, after all, you probably won't see a large Rolex or sports watch on a woman's wrist or vice versa. While Apple have traditionally followed the one-size-fits-all design paradign they recently changed this approach when they released the Apple iPhone 5S and Apple iPhone 5C, so the rumour of two different Apple iWatch smartwatches according to gender sounds like the right way to go. As usual, do take this with a pinch of salt, as a rumour remains a rumour until it is proven.
