Previously, we shared how Malaysia’s 5G network coverage has reached 82.4% of populated areas nationwide as of 31 December 2024. Well, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has provided more in-depth data on the matter, revealing that 5G network users in Malaysia have reached 53.35% or 18.19 million subscribers as of the same date.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today revealed more details about Malaysia’s upcoming second 5G network. Speaking during the launch of the TNG eWalle e-Mas, Gobind said that telcos for the 2nd network will be selected by the end of 2024.

Maxis Bhd today in a statement announced that it’s ready to complete the Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) share subscription agreement (SSA) process for the rollout of the second 5G network. Moreover, the telco company asserted that it’s ready to sign the shareholders agreement with DNB in accordance with the SSA’s terms.

Previously, we reported that the DNB 5G share subscription agreement (SSA) with 5 local telcos has been delayed yet again. Now, the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has announced that should Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) fail to reach an agreement on ownership of the DNB 5G network and the upcoming second 5G network, the government would be stepping in.
