  • Google Nexus 5 could have been called Google Nexus G by LG

Google Nexus 5 could have been called Google Nexus G by LG

Traditionally, most Nexus products and devices usually don't get named according to their brand makers and often times they are either called the Google Nexus 4 only. This has always been the official stance except for when Samsung did the Nexus S. Recent reports in Korea have highlighted the fact that if LG had their way, they'd have named the recent Google Nexus 5 the Nexus G. While it isn't a big secret that LG did make the recent Google Nexus 5 device, Google said no, perhaps to avoid confusion with other similarly named Google products like the Motorola Moto G. LG is well known for their G series of devices like the LG G2, LG G Flex, LG G Pad and many other LG G products.

Samsung flexible wraparond display smartphone coming to Malaysia in 2014?

Samsung and LG both recently came out with curved display smartphones in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Round and LG G Flex. While both show off what each company can do with flexible display technology, both don't really show off what a flexible display smartphone can do. Samsung looks to be changing that as they are applying for a US patent for a flexible wraparound display smartphone much like the one earlier seen at CES 2013 when Samsung showed off their Youm display devices. The patent application mentions that it is about a "Method and apparatus for operating functions of portable terminal having bended display" and indicates that this could be one of the first of Samsung's bended display smartphones, which were earlier spotted in a roadmap slide.

The LG G Flex is more than just the other only curved screen smartphone currently in existance, it also has a number of other features. According to LG, one of the more innovative ones is the self healing back which LG have demoed with a video showing scratches made on the backside of the chassis disappearing. According to LG, the 6-inch curved display offers a better movie viewing experience similar to that on an IMAX screen as it makes it seem multi-layer instead of just a flat surface. In addition to these two features, LG are also releasing a number of accessories to go with the LG G Flex which includes a Quick Window cover, the Vest casing and various USB OTG cable connectors. Check out the pics and video for yourself in this article.

LG G Flex really does flex in videos

The LG G Flex is the company's first curved smartphone using a flexible plastic substrate as the 6-inch screen's material. While it is curved concave from top to bottom some new videos show that if you press it down hard enough, the G Flex actually does bend and flex with so far, no effect on the smartphone (although doing it too much could eventually break it, we assume). Other tech specs in clude a 6-inch 720 x 1280 display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 20GB of RAM, 32GB storage and a 3500 mAh battery. In addition to actually being able to flex, the G Flex also has a self-repair backside so it can survive a pocket ful of keys with ease. While there isn't any specific Malaysia release date or pricing available just yet LG have said that the "global announcement for G Flex is in the works". Check out the LG G flex in the videos in this article.

The LG G Flex curved screen smartphone has been officially announced. It will be released in South Korea starting from November 2013 with so far no news on any international or even Malaysia release dates. One of the first curved smartphones in the world using "flexible display" technology from LG, the LG G Flex has some rather midrange to high-end tech specs which include:

    • quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
    • 2GB RAM
    • 32GB storage + microSD
    • 6-inch OLED display (1280 x 720)
    • 13MP rear camera
    • Supports LTE-A + NFC + rear volume buttons
    • 160.5 x 81.6 x 7.9mm | 177g
    • 3500 mAh battery
    • Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

For those of you wondering if the LG G Flex, the curved smartphone from LG, is just another concept render then rest assured that it is indeed real as it appears on video. Some tech specs and features for the LG G Flex so far seem to match that of the LG G2 which include rear-mounted buttons and a 13MP rear camera. The screen remains the same curved 6-inch OLED display that is concave from top to bottom. While it hasn't been mentioned yet, we're expecting the LG G Flex to have similar tech specs like a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the video does not reveal Malaysia release dates or pricing, only that it may be officially announced in South Korea soon, which could place it sometime in November 2013.

  • Rumours: Curved smartphone LG G Flex renders leak?

Rumours: Curved smartphone LG G Flex renders leak?

LG's take on the curved smartphone will most likely be called the LG G Flex with a number of images recently leaking. These renders show a similar concave surface but rather than side to side it is curved concave from top to bottom, which we must say certainly feels more natural than the previously curved smartphone. According to rumours the LG G Flex screen will measure 6 inches but there are no other tech specs and features available. According to previous reports, the Malaysia release date for the LG G Flex is expected from November 2013 but there are no details on specific dates or pricing just yet.

LG announces their flexible displays, curved concave smartphone coming November 2013

LG has recently announced the world's first flexible 6-inch OLED display which they say is headed for commercial smartphones. Tech specs and features show that the panels consist of plastic, can be bent from tip to tip without breaking and is concave from top to bottom with a 700mm radius. According to researchers while you can bend the plastic panels, the main advantage of a flexible display is that it is much thinner than current smartphone screen panels. The LG flexible display panel will be just 0.44mm thin which is both very light at 7.2g for the 6-inch panel and very durable. So far, the curved smartphone from LG using these flexible displays is set to be called the LG G Flex with a Malaysia release time expected from November 2013. No news on whether or not the panels are easy or expensive to make so we don't have any pricing details either, but we should find out more when the LG G Flex arrives next month.

  • Rumours: LG to release flexible display or curved smartphones soon

Rumours: LG to release flexible display or curved smartphones soon

It is a rather well-known fact that both Samsung and LG have flexible display technology. According to some reports LG may soon release a smartphone with a curved or concave screen using this flexible display technology. Reports have been rather mixed though as we have a translated report stating that a curved screen smartphone going by the name of LG Z will be revealed in October 2013. However, there is another report stating that an LG smartphone using the same flexible display technology called the LG G Flex would be revealed in November 2013. This could be 2 flexible display or curved smartphones from LG or it could be the same 1 curved screen LG smartphone. Unfortunately other tech specs, features and details are not available at this time. No Malaysia release dates or pricing either but we'll keep you updated when the LG Z or LG G Flex breaks cover.
