The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has revealed that Malaysia’s air passenger traffic reached 9.2 million in January 2025, 28.2% more than the same period last year. In fact, January 2025’s air passenger traffic stood at 106.1% of January 2019, surpassing pre-pandemic volumes for the first time.

Previously, we reported that all airlines in Malaysia must provide mandatory full refunds to passengers of flights delayed by 5 hours or more. Now, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) has iterated that refunds must include any carbon fee charges and be made through the original mode of payment.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today announced that all airlines must provide mandatory full refunds to passengers of flights delayed by 5 hours or more. This new regulation will come into force starting this 2 September.
