The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that 410.59 million unsolicited Short Message Services (SMS) were blocked in the first 9 months of this year. Its Deputy Minister, Teo Nie Ching further revealed that 19 million SMS containing hyperlinks were blocked from 2 May until September 2023.

Previously, we reported on the number of scam-related media blocked by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) this year. Now, further details regarding the scourge of scams in Malaysia have been revealed and the action taken against them, this time regarding scam calls.

Scam cases have been on the rise lately. Thankfully, the MCMC has also been very active in countering this problem. According to a minister, the government body has blocked over 3150 scam-related media online

Today, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released a new statement regarding online harm and imbalance media. A discussion took place yesterday at MCMC HQ, where several members considered regulating digital platforms, namely Meta and Google to address challenges posed by online media.

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) stressed that the usage of satellite internet services such as Starlink is not a commercial decision, but just a temporary measure for areas without good internet access. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil further revealed that long-term solutions are being implemented for the issue.

Today, MCMC warned netizens to not share images or videos about the Elmina plane crash. This was done to respect the sensitivity of the deceased families and to prevent misinformation. MCMC also warned that sharing these media will breach the principles and ethics of the Internet.
