Last March, we found out that Internet prices would be more affordable. Four months have passed since then. Today, Malaysia’s Digital and Communication Minister, Fahmi Fadzil has repeated the same statement. The difference? The minister mentioned that it will happen this September.

Previously, we reported that Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) would be recipients of 10 Starlink internet devices following the government’s agreement with the Elon Musk company. True enough, Malaysia’s first Starlink internet device has officially been installed at UiTM’s Kuala Pilah campus in Negeri Sembilan.

Back in March 2023, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced the implementation of the new Mandatory Standard on Access Pricing (MSAP). For those unaware, it's to set lower prices for broadband services but nothing has happened until now.

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that Malaysians lost approximately RM302 million to online scams on Meta-owned platforms Instagram and Facebook. Moreover, the whopping loss amount is only for the period between January 2021 and June 2023.

At the end of June 2023, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said it will take legal action against Meta for not cooperating to remove scam ads on Facebook. But that has been resolved, as announced by our Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil. 

In another announcement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the organisation would like to remind all service providers that all calls and delivery of short message systems must display real number information. In other words, no more private numbers.

If you heard about a Pink WhatsApp application, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT. Well, that's the announcement from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) this morning, sending a warning to the public about the malware app. 

As you should know, Telegram has finally agreed to work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Police Force (PDRM) to combat cybercrimes on its platform. We have been wondering when MCMC would also take action against Facebook and the announcement has been made.

In case you didn't receive it, a few of us have gotten an SMS from our respective telcos. Starting on 2 July 2023, SMS containing links, requesting personal data and phone numbers will be blocked to prevent online fraud.
