YB Gobind Singh, Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Malaysia recently announced that the 5G Testbed area will be expanded to 5 other Malaysian states outside from the original Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. These 5 states will include Kedah, KL, Perak, Selangor and Terengganu but there's no exact Malaysia dates when this might happen or when we'll see commercial 5G networks roll-out.

Based on an article titled “Malaysia’s need for speed: How regulatory action is unleashing ultrafast internet” in the World Bank report, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) was commended in their efforts to increase the average broadband speeds in Malaysia. Not only that, but they have also managed to reduce the average price by up to 49% for these services. 

Just yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has initiated a Call for Collaboration and invited Network Facility Provider (NFP) and Network Service Provider (NSP) license holders to submit proposals for the 5G Demonstration Projects. The purpose of this collaboration is to test and deploy proposed 5G use cases in harnessing the growth of the 5G ecosystem in Malaysia.

In the wake of the recent suicide by a 16 year old teenager from Sarawak triggered by an Instagram poll, MCMC recently sent out a statement reminding everyone that it is in fact illegal to spur a suicidal minor on or encourage those looking to suicide (up to 20 years jail time and fines). The teen had apparently asked followers of her Instagram “Really Important, Help Me to Choose D/L” in which 69% of the respondents chose D (which stood for death). She was then found dead, believed to have fallen from the 3rd floor of a shop lot in Kuching.

While it's a known fact that we are surrounded by various radioactive wavelengths, Professor Dr. Tharek Abd Rahman, a member of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), would like to remind people that there's no need to worry about 5G technology affecting our health and well being as there are no conclusive research results that it's harmful.

Today, MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Comission) has released a statement notifying the public not to share any videos related to the Christchurch Mosque massacres which have just happened in New Zealand, in the afternoon earlier today. They have also noted that the sharing of the video is considered an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, so you could be prosecuted if found guilty.

In this short announcement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Malaysia has climbed to the 28th spot in terms of Internet speed. We know that there's still a lot of work to be done, but it's quite an improvement compared to 2017 when Malaysia was ranked 56th.

As we slowly but surely make our way into 5G and 2019, MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) recently came out with a report about the RM2.32 million compound amount of 63 various offences made by telcos in Malaysia up to February 2019. The various offences include failure to comply with Mandatory Standard of Quality of Service (MSQoS) in network and customer services, fake registrations, removal of competitors’ promotional material, failure to deal reasonably with consumers and adequately address consumer complaints and other provisions in the Communications & Multimedia Act 1998 along with failure to handle mobile number portability requests by consumers.
