4 shameless phone product placements that you probably forgot

This morning, Eminem's latest music video was just released and fans like myself got to check it out. Unlike his previous music video, Darkness, that went with a dark theme on the message of having access to guns, his latest hit single, Godzilla, is wackier like his younger days. However, I can't help to notice that there was a shameless product placement in the music video.

Rumours: Microsoft Lumia prototype spotted online, could be Lumia 1020's successor

Microsoft has yet to announce a true successor to the Lumia 1020 smartphone and while nobody knows whether there will be a second generation Lumia 1020, a prototype device with the model number RM-1052 was recently spotted on a Chinese auction website. The RM-1052 could be the rumored Nokia 'McLaren' which was expected to succeed the Lumia 1020. Tech specs include a quad core processor, 2GB RAM and a 1080p Full HD screen up front, but the size is unknown. Judging from the looks, it could be a 5 inch screen, which also makes sense since the Lumia 1020 came with a slightly smaller 4.5 inch display. The design looks in line with the 1020 especially the large rear camera housing. However, instead of a polycarbonate body, it is made of metal. The photo clearly reveals that it is a prototype device as there is the 'Property of Microsoft' and 'Not for Sale' branding on the back. Back in July, it was reported that Microsoft had cancelled plans for the Nokia 'McLaren', so even though this prototype made it to the internet, it doesn't confirm the existence of a successor to the 41MP Lumia model so do take this rumour with a pinch of salt.

Rumours: Nokia Lumia 830 pictures appear

The Nokia Lumia 830 has been rumoured to be coming during the IFA 2014 but already, pictures of the midrange smartphone have appeared. What makes the pictures all that much more interesting is that it is indeed packing in a PureView image sensor despite being aimed for the midrange market. While most industry watchers have pointed out that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is nearing it's expiry point, it doesn't look like the Pureview sensor on the Lumia 830 is the same 41MP PureView sensor on the Lumia 1020. This is because it isn't as raised or as thick and could likely just be a 20MP PureView sensor or perhaps even less. Other tech specs for the Lumia 830 include a 4.5-inch display and 4G LTE connectivity. Again, no specific Malaysia release dates or pricing details but we should find out soon at the coming IFA 2014 in September where the Lumia 730 is also rumoured to be coming as well.

  • Rumours: Microsoft to reveal Lumia 730 and Lumia 830 at IFA 2014?

Rumours: Microsoft to reveal Lumia 730 and Lumia 830 at IFA 2014?

Microsoft recently sent out invites to their upcoming event at the IFA 2014 in September. The invite clearly shows a PureView sensor, hinting that a device with a PureView camera will be revealed at the event. The most obvious device could be the Lumia 830 which while a midrange device, could come with a 20.1MP PureView camera. Other rumoured tech specs for the Lumia 830 includes a 4.5-inch display with 720p pixel resolution. Another device said to be coming at the event could be the Lumia 730 or Lumia Superman, which has been dubbed as the company's Selfie smartphone, perhaps due to the rumoured 5MP front camera. Other tech specs and features for the Lumia 730 include a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 4.7-inch display with 720p pixel resolution. The Microsoft event is set for 4 September 2014 and while this rumour could be true, do take it with good pinch of salt. It could just as likely be the reveal for the next device to hold the 41MP PureView sensor said to be going out with the Lumia 1020. Stay tuned for more developments.

  • Rumours: Nokia Lumia 1020 replacement coming 14 September 2014?

Rumours: Nokia Lumia 1020 replacement coming 14 September 2014?

The Nokia Lumia 1020 remains the world's only cameraphone with a 41MP PureView camera, but it seems like it may soon get replaced in the next couple of months. Serial leaker @evleaks has revealed that the Lumia 1020 could be getting it's end of life status on 14 September 2014. While this means that existing stock will still get sold, it also means that a new model cameraphone sporting a 41MP PureView camera sensor could be on the way. Admittedly, the tech specs on the Lumia 1020 are starting to look a bit dated with it's 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU and 2000 mAh battery but it's camera remains unmatched with any cameraphone to date. No news or rumours have appeared yet about a possible successor or any Malaysia release dates but the next chance for such a device to appear would be at the upcoming IFA 2014 in September. Stay tuned and we'll keep you posted as to new developments.

  • Rumours: Sample image indicates Oppo Find 7 smartphone could have 50MP camera?

Rumours: Sample image indicates Oppo Find 7 smartphone could have 50MP camera?

When you take a picture with a camera, the resulting image file usually contains EXIF data, which contains details like when it was taken and with what device. A new sample image that cropped up recently not only shows that it was taken by the upcoming Oppo Find 7 smartphone but also that the camera used to take the image has a 50MP camera sensor. The image has a resolution of 8160 x 6120 and while it certainly doesn't look all that detailed it is fairly sharp nonetheless. Tech specs and features for the Oppo Find 7 are all top notch with a Snapdragon 801 processor and chipset and a 5.5-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. We're hoping that the new camera sensor will also come with some good oversampling features, as even the 41MP Nokia Lumia 1020 didn't use all of it's megapixels for pure image data. While there aren't any Malaysia release dates or pricing just yet, the Oppo Find 7 should be announced on 19 March 2014 so stay tuned.

  • Nokia Refocus app lets you shoot first and focus later

Nokia Refocus app lets you shoot first and focus later

The Lytro-like refocus ability first offered by the Nokia Lumia 1020 can no be enjoyed by other Lumia owners with the new Nokia Refocus app. Working like a camera app, it takes several photos using different depths of the same image. You can then choose to refocus on any spot in the picture, something which Nokia has made interactive. From our brief hands-on with the app, it works much like a filter, sharpening up the focus point and blurring out the other image depths for a very interesting Lytro camera-like effect. Bear in mind though, that if you take a blurred shot, the Nokia Refocus app won't be able to do much asides from sharpening an already blurry photo. You can easily focus back on everything, returning the photo back to normal as well as do a colour-popup as well. According to Nokia, the app is compatible with the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928, Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520. The app can be downloaded at the Windows Phone store under the Nokia Collection.

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets announced with 6-inch displays

Nokia Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets announced with 6-inch displays

Despite being leaked and unofficially announced a day early, the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet finally gets officially announced at the recent Nokia World event this time with a surprise little brother in the form of the Nokia Lumia 1320. Breaking ground into phablet territory, the Lumia 1520 offers a 6-inch full HD display while the Nokia Lumia 1320 offers a 6-inch 720p display. Obviously the Lumia 1520 is the more premium device and it offers premium features like built-in Qi wireless charging along with image refocusing through oversampling just like the Lumia 1020. The Lumia 1320 is clearly the Lumia phablet for the masses and as such has lower-end tech specs and features.
