At the moment, the 5nm chip is the most advanced chip technology offered in the market. Although the chip makers are claiming that they are developing chips with measurements lower than that such as 3nm and 4nm, there is still some time to go before those chips get to see the light of day. Today, IBM has surprisingly announced that they have taken a huge leap by making the first 2nm chip.

Earlier, MediaTek has unveiled two of its 6nm-based chipsets that are the Dimesity 1200 and 1100. Now, it's time for the manufacturer to announce its mid-range chipsets for this year. According to a source, there will be two new 5G mid-range chipsets coming and they might be based on an older 10 or 12mm process.

Based on a statement by gizchina, it seems that TSMC will start production of 3nm chips starting from 2022 onwards. While not much is known in regards to which smartphone will come equipped with the new chips, we do know that the new chips will not only provide more power but also higher efficiency.

As you know, electronics require microchips. TSMC has been a leader in this area has kept ahead of rival Samsung for the past few years. Although Samsung could be ready for the transition to 3nm soon, it looks like major companies like Apple may still choose TSMC for 3nm and even 2nm chips.

Based on a statement by TSMC, it seems that they are currently working on 5nm and 6nm process which will not only increase the performance of the chipset, but also make it much more energy-efficient. But that’s not all, they’ve also confirmed that 3nm and 4nm manufacturing process is currently in development and it is expected to enter mass production somewhere around the year 2022.
