The large screen Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is the large screen device for the latest large screen smartphone for the masses but even at the retail price of RM1299, some people would appreciate a little help or a bundled postpaid plan. This is why Maxis are now offering the 6-inch display phablet from RM599. You will have to sign up for a 24-month contract for one of the MaxisONE plans but you still get limitless calls and SMS. The successor to the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy Mega 6.3 has appeared with the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2. The 5.98-inch phablet was recently spotted at China's Tenaa revealing pics and tech specs. These tech specs and features include a 64-bit 1.2GHz Qualcomm snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB storage with support for microSD flash memory, a 5.98-inch display with 120 x 1280 pixel resolution, 13MP rear camera with LED flash, 5MP front camera and Android 4.4 KitKat. Since it is coming out for China it supports TD-LTE which is the 4G LTE version in China. The phablet measures in at 163.6 x 84.9 x 8.6mm which is quite large despite having fairly thin bezels and an artifical leather backside. No specific Malaysia release dates or pricing yet, but if it is already out in China, it should be here in Malaysia soon.

While we've yet to get any official announcement yet, it seems that Samsung has come out with a "new" phablet in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Mega Plus. Featuring more or less the same design and tech specs as the Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8, the only difference is that the 1.4GHz dual-core processor has been replaced by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. Other tech specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy Mega Plus are identical to the Galaxy Mega 5.8 including:

• 8GB storage + 64GB microSD
• 5.8-inch display with 540 x 960 pixel resolution

As teased earlier, U Mobile has finally launched 4G LTE on their networks. Offering up to 75Mbps speeds the service currently covers Bandar Sunway, Berjaya Times Square, Puchong and Taman Molek, Johor Bahru. While the coverage areas are still rather limited, U Mobile have done good on their claim of 4G for all by opening it up to Prepaid, Postpaid and Broadband users. This means you don't need to get a new 4G LTE SIM card to get on U Mobile's 4G LTE network. As long as you have an LTE capable device and a U Mobile SIM all you need to do is send 'LTE ON' to 28118. Maxis Malaysia is currently offering the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 LTE version for RM899 under its TalkMore48 plan and TalkMore78 plan with an additional Maxis Mobile Internet package. The smartphone appears to be the 4G LTE version and you will have to pay an advance payment of RM500 worth of rebates plus 1 month subscription.
