Qatar Airways has now announced a partnership with satellite-based internet service provider, Starlink. Through this collaboration, Qatar Airways aeroplanes will be equipped with Internet service support provided through Starlink - making it easier for passengers to continue accessing the Internet while in flight.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil today revealed that he had met with Starlink's Global Licensing and Market Activation director Rebecca Hunter at the Malaysian Pavillion at MWC 2024. During the meeting, he proposed for the SpaceX satellite internet service to open up its offices in our country.

Previously, we mentioned how the Starlink satellite service is a temporary fix for long-term internet solutions in Malaysia. Today, Elon Musk’s company just launched 6 new Starlink satellites into space. So, what should you know about it?

SpaceX has signed an authorised reseller agreement with REDtone Digital Sdn Bhd which allows the latter to offer Starlink satellite internet services across Malaysia. In case you’re not familiar, REDtone is an integrated telco and digital infrastructure services provider company.

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) stressed that the usage of satellite internet services such as Starlink is not a commercial decision, but just a temporary measure for areas without good internet access. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil further revealed that long-term solutions are being implemented for the issue.

Previously, we reported that Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) would be recipients of 10 Starlink internet devices following the government’s agreement with the Elon Musk company. True enough, Malaysia’s first Starlink internet device has officially been installed at UiTM’s Kuala Pilah campus in Negeri Sembilan.

After the recent development of Starlink, Malaysians can now place orders for the company’s internet satellite service. In case you didn’t know, Starlink is a satellite broadband service under SpaceX.

Previously, we shared that our country is purchasing 40 internet devices from Starlink and accordingly, the company has been granted the legal license to operate in Malaysia. Now, the government has further revealed plans for their utilisation, with a quarter of them set to be given to Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

Recently, Starlink has become a hot topic among Malaysians thanks to the online meeting between Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX.

Previously, we reported on the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Starlink. Following the virtual meeting, Anwar has since announced that the government is buying 40 Starlink internet devices for use in learning institutions in our country.
