Caretaker Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has lauded the implementation of the Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) 5G access agreement, saying that it will enable mobile network operators (MNOs) in our country to save up to RM30 billion over the next decade. The agreement is the world’s first single wholesale 5G network and allows MNOs to save on infrastructure construction costs.

Following Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) signing of the Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) Access Agreement on Sunday (30 October 2022), the company has launched its first phase of 5G services today. The caretaker Menteri Besar of Perak, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad has announced that the state is expected to reach 80 per cent 5G network coverage by the year 2024. Furthermore, 106 new 5G network sites will also be built in Perak by the end of the year, complementing the existing 37 network sites in the state.

Today, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) officially announced that a new Access Agreement (AA) had been made with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) for its National 5G Wholesale Network Product. According to the official document here, the AA will be in effect for 10 years until 6 October 2032.

The telco companies are Telekom Malaysia (TM), YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Celcom Axiata Bhd, Maxis Bhd and U Mobile Sdn Bhd.

Following some 2 years of negotiations, 4 mobile network operators (MNOs) have executed share subscription agreements (SSAs) for a total of 65 per cent equity stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). The four MNOs are YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YES), Telekom Malaysia (TM), Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) and Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom).

Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced that it is currently in the final negotiation stage with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) for the 5G single wholesale network agreement in our country. During a media briefing today, TM is confident that it will meet the 31 August 2022 deadline set by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for said agreement as well as the equity agreement to become a DNB shareholder.
