The government introduced the BUDI95 petrol subsidy program two months ago. Now, JPJ recently said that you could lose this privilege if you fail to do this important step. So, what should you know about it?

Since 30 September 2025, many Malaysians have utilised the BUDI95 programme. However, this also created a new problem: Malaysians residing in Singapore are effectively locked out. With this, the Malaysian government will create a new pathway to allow citizens holding Singapore driving licences to access the BUDI95 fuel subsidy.

Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) has officially expanded the BUDI95 fuel subsidy program to cover all 16 million citizens with a valid MyKad and driving license, marking a major milestone in digital public service delivery.

According to The Star, Malaysians will soon be able to verify their eligibility for the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol subsidy online, starting 25 September 2025. The move is intended to streamline access and reduce friction ahead of the subsidy’s full rollout.

Under the upcoming BUDI95 petrol subsidy scheme, Malaysians will face no restrictions on how many times they can fill up with RON95 petrol or diesel in a single day (for now). However, the government has made it clear it will be closely monitoring usage to prevent abuse and profiteering.

News of the BUDI95 program has been spreading rapidly, but many wondered how it would be used when at a petrol station. Today, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismai made a hands-on visit to a petrol station to observe MyKad verification in action ahead of the rollout of the targeted RON95 subsidy, priced at RM1.99 per litre, set to begin on 30 September.

Setel, in collaboration with the Malaysian government and Petronas, has announced full integration of the BUDI MADANI RON95 subsidy program directly into its app, making it easier for Malaysians to enjoy subsidised fuel without the hassle of presenting their MyKad at every refuel.

Yesterday, the Malaysian government announced the BUDI95 program, under which every Malaysian with an active driver's license and MyKad can claim 300 litres of RON95 monthly at RM1.99 per litre. If you need to repair and replace your MyKad, you can do so for free for a limited time.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced that road users in the country can convert their probationary driving license (PDL) to the competent driving licence (CDL) through the MyJPJ app starting tomorrow (17 February). In a statement, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli asserted that this new feature will benefit some 2.38 million ‘P’ driving license holders.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook today revealed that starting next year, the Transport Ministry will implement an initiative in which you may have to pay to get a physical driving license. Furthermore, he iterated that the Government will continue with the implementation of digital driving licenses and road tax in Malaysia.
