It seems that a statement by Berita Harian, the Malaysian government will be sending RM50 e-wallet to Malaysian citizens somewhere around the end of the month. While not much is known in regards to the exact date, the Finance Minister mentioned that more details on the in regards to how to obtain the e-wallet will be announced somewhere in the near future.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Muhyiddin has officially announced that the government will be giving away e-wallet worth RM50 to all Malaysians in order to encourage the usage of cashless payments. The RM50 will be given out starting from July 2020 onwards through selected e-wallet platforms such as Grab, Touch ‘n Go, and Boost.

Donations continue to pour in from around the country to aid those at the frontlines and hot spots of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. Among them is e-wallet company Boost, which has been using its apps to help gather donations from Malaysians. Since it started its Tabung COVID-19 fund on 21 March 2020, the company has been funnelling sending all donations to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Based on a report by astroawani.com, it seems that around 50 victims fell prey to a group of E-Wallet scammers who have managed to bag around RM600000. In order to pull the scam off, some individuals in the group will act as agents who will seek out selected individuals and promise them up to RM300 if they were to sign up.

In a collaboration between the Ministry of Finance Cyberview Sdn Bhd, as well as Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Cyberjaya has become the first city in Malaysia to go cashless. The initiative which is called Cashless Ecosystem for Cyberjaya, which was originally introduced about two years ago, with more than 80% of the merchants adopting at least one e-payment solution.

One such scam group claims it's from Boost and has been sending scam SMS messages to the public.

It seems that Apple’s iPhones are required to support e-wallets other than their very own Apple Pay, based on a court ruling in Germany that was passed very recently. The court ruling required all “operators of electronic money infrastructure” to allow e-wallet integration, at a reasonable fee which means that you could use your Apple device to make payments even without Apple Pay.
