Tablet-maker Ramos announces Ramos Mos1 smartphone with curved yet layered metal body

Ramos is a mostly tablet making company from China and have come out with some fairly impressive tablets. Recently, they announced their first smartphone with the Ramos Mos1. Taking a step ahead of other Chinese smartphone makers the Mos1 is the first metal frame smartphone we've seen with curved yet layered look to it. According to Ramos, this was done to get the ideal 158-degree angle curve, improving the grip and making it stand out from the rest of the crowd. Tech specs and features are a mix of high-end and midrange with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and 5.5-inch FHD display. This display is protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass while a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera round things out. A 3050 mAh battery powers everything. The Mos1 measures in at 7.6mm thin and is priced at 1999 CNY (RM1226) placing it around the same area as the Honor 7 and Meizu MX5. No Malaysia release dates yet but keep an eye on third-party sellers like DirectD or SatuGadgetDotCom and it could appear there.

Huawei Honor 7 vs Meizu MX5 comparisons

Announced at around the same time, the Huawei Honor 7 and Meizu MX5 share a number of similar features such as an all metal body, more than 5-inch sized full HD display, fingerprint scanner and 20MP rear cameras. Neither are currently available here in Malaysia yet but at 1800 CNY (RM1081) the Meizu MX5 is priced lower than Honor 7 which is going for 1999 CNY (RM1214). The Honor 7 is more compact due to its 5.2-inch display but the Meizu MX5 is thinner at 7.6mm and lighter at 149g despite the larger 5.5-inch display. Both come packing with the latest 64-bit processors, the Honor 7 with a HiSilicon Kirin 935 while the Meizu MX5 comes with a MediaTek MT6795 Helio processor.

The Honor 7 ups the Meizu MX5 with an 8MP front camera but the MX5 has a slightly higher 20.7MP rear camera compared to the 20MP rear camera on the Honor 7. The Honor 7 rear camera uses phase detection autofocus while the Meizu MX5 uses a laser autofocus. Which autofocus is better? Well, the debate on that still hasn't quieted down yet, especially if Huawei uses newer algorithms and sensors like in the Samsung Galaxy S6 which also uses phase detection autofocus. So far, there are still no details yet on which will be coming to Malaysia first, but both have a presence here so we would say in the coming months. • Huawei's Honor Band Zero and Honor Whistle also get announced

Huawei's Honor Band Zero and Honor Whistle also get announced

Apart from the Honor 7 announcement yesterday, Huawei also announced a new smartwatch with the Honor Band Zero and a Bluetooth headset called the Honor Whistle. Both feature a brushed metal look and chamfered machined edges for a classy finish. The Honor Band Zero in particular is a circular smartwatch + pedometer and fitness tracker that has IP68 water and dust resistance certification. It looks to come with different coloured bands but the main watch is a silver circle with brushed metal edges. The Honor Whistle on the other hand appears to be a Bluetooth headset which features a circular button on the side, perhaps to control volume. No other details of tech specs, features, Malaysia release dates or pricing were available but these two accessories could arrive alongside the Honor 7 when it makes it's way here to Malaysia.

  • Full-metal Honor 7 is official with 20MP phase-detection camera and fingerprint sensor from RM1214

Full-metal Honor 7 is official with 20MP phase-detection camera and fingerprint sensor from RM1214

Huawei have officially announced their Honor 7 smartphone today and like the Honor 6 Plus before it, it comes with a host of flagship features for a very affordable price tag. Finally going upwards from the previous Honor design, the Honor 7 offers a full metal unibody frame and backplate complete with a fingerprint scanner like the Huawei Mate 7. Breaking free of previous restrictions it is also the first Honor smartphone to come with a 20MP rear camera which also comes with phase detection auto-focus, dual tone LED flash and a sapphire protective glass layer. Tech specs include a 64-bit 2.2GHz octa-core Kirin 935 processor, 3GB RAM, 5.2-inch FHD display, 8MP front camera, 3100 mAh battery, fast charging and Android 5.0 Lollipop. Pricing is surprisingly affordable with the single SIM 4G LTE version with 16GB storage going for 1999 CNY (RM1214), the dual SIM 4G LTE version for 2199 CNY (RM1335) and the dual SIM 4G LTE version with 64GB storage going for 2499 CNY (RM1517). No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet but Honor Malaysia should be bringing it in soon. A lot of other features are also available such as more complete voice commands like the speech awareness on the Huawei P8, while the premium design should make the Honor 7 even more of a value-beating device here in Malaysia.

  • Rumours: Honor 7 smartphone to be priced at $599 (RM2239)?

Rumours: Honor 7 smartphone to be priced at $599 (RM2239)?

The Honor 7 smartphone rumours keep on coming and this time reports indicate that it could be priced at $599 (RM2239). Earlier leaks have it coming on 30 June 2015 with features that include a metal body and fingerprint scanner. Leaked pictures show it to follow the same design as the Huawei Mate 7 but with a smaller 5-inch display. Tech specs remain unconfirmed but rumours say it could have a Kirin 935 processor, 3GB / 4GB RAM, 16GB / 64GB storage, a 5-inch FHD display, a 3280 mAh battery and a 13MP rear camera with OIS. While there is no news yet of a Malaysia release date or pricing details, we expect the Honor 7 to be just a bit higher than the current Honor 6 Plus which retails at RM1399. This would place the Honor 7 around RM1600 to RM1800 but as always with such rumours, do take this with a good pinch of salt, as things could change drastically when it actually arrives in Malaysia.

The invite does not reveal much except that the Honor 7 will likely come with a metal body and a fingerprint scanner. Other tech specs have not been confirmed but many are expecting a Kirin 935 processor, 3GB / 4GB RAM, 16GB / 64GB storage, a 5-inch FHD display, a 3280 mAh battery and a 13MP rear camera with OIS. No news yet on specific Malaysia release dates or pricing details but we'll let you know as soon as we find out.

  • Rumours: Huawei Honor 7 coming soon?

Rumours: Huawei Honor 7 coming soon?

The Huawei Honor 7's launch is imminent - 8 June to be exact. At least that's according to the teaser that was released by the company recently. As you can see from the teaser, there's not much information about the phone itself, but it does have a quote written in Chinese that translates to a quote by Einstein, "Imagination is everything." Unfortunately, it also isn't clear as to which variant, or if both of the Honor 7 variants will be launched on that date. Tech specs have yet to be confirmed but initial images of the Honor 7 have appeared showing a metal frame with a fingerprint scanner, much like the earlier Huawei Ascend Mate 7. Estimated tech specs and features include a a Huawei Kirin 935 processor, 4GB / 3GB RAM, 64GB / 16GB storage, 4G LTE and a 3280 mAh battery. While there are no Malaysia release dates yet, it has already been certified by TENAA. Stay tuned as we'll find out more very shortly.
