With the announcement of the upcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, visionOS 26, and tvOS 26 this week, Apple also introduced an expanded suite of safety features. At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple indeed introduced iOS?26 as previously rumoured. The new name scheme follows the year and features a major update, including a visual redesign and deeper on-device artificial intelligence enhancements.

Previously, we shared that Apple is touted to use a year-based naming scheme for its smartphone OS, skipping iOS 19 for iOS 26 (year 2026). Now, it looks like Xiaomi is reportedly planning to do the same with its HyperOS.

As we reported before, Apple could be changing the iOS 19 name to iOS 26 to coincide with the year. That said, the company will introduce a suite of new features for AirPods with the upcoming update.

Although it's not confirmed yet, MacRumors reports that Apple could be changing the iOS 19 name to iOS 26. Why 26? Well, this is so that it aligns the operating system naming with the upcoming year. It is expected to be announced at WWDC on 9 June 2025, aiming to unify the versions across other platforms.
