Sony has impressive image sensors for smartphones, but none of them goes above 100MP. However, things might change soon as the company is said to be working on releasing its first 100MP sensor, and it's for the premium mid-rangers.

The day has finally come, Samsung has successfully manufactured the ISOCELL HP1 which is the industry's first 200MP sensor with 0.64μm pixels. Moreover, the company also made the ISOCELL GN5, a super-slim 1.0 μm 50MP sensor with autofocusing Dual Pixel Pro technology.

vivo's very first self-developed image sensor dubbed V1 might soon debut together with the upcoming X70 series. Today, images of the V1 chips have surfaced, revealing that they are already in mass production. Therefore, if nothing goes wrong, we could see the chip presented with the latest flagship vivo smartphone next month.

After collaborating with Sony to build the IMX766 image sensor for the Reno 5 Pro+ 5G, a tipster revealed that OPPO is working with the Japanese company again for another custom image sensor. This time, the image sensor is rumoured to be called IMX789 and it could remain exclusive to OPPO for a certain period.

Imaging technology has come a long way, expanding into many new sectors in recent years. Mobile cameras, for example, had seen the most growth in recent years due to the size of the smartphone market. After all, companies always invest in technologies that help turn a profit. In particular, Samsung is a big name in the imaging technology business and it has plans for something big in the image sensor department.
