Do you prefer watching movies or playing video games? Well, according to a new survey report by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), 63% of Gen Z individuals prefer gaming to watching movies.

Watching movies from Sony Pictures on your PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 sounds awesome but how does it work? Well, it's a little bit complicated but from Sony's blog post today, the service won't be in Malaysia anytime soon but here's the breakdown. 

Today, Astro just announced that all the subscribers will have a free preview of all its movies and Korean channels on TV and Astro Go. The company just recently won a couple of awards at the Putra Brand Awards 2021 so as a gesture of goodwill, the free viewing will begin on 29 January until 6 February 2022.

Looks like Google recently confirmed that they will be shutting down the Google Play Movies & TV app on 15 June 2021 and instead be pushing existing customers to their YouTube apps in order to access their existing movie purchases. But that’s not all, 9to5Google also mentioned that the app will not be accessible on Roku, as well as other smart TV brands such as LG, Samsung, Vizio, and potentially more.

One of the things we could no longer do because of the CMCO was going to the cinemas. But the Malaysian government is ready to lift certain restrictions and cinemas are included. Local cinemas are quick to respond, with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) set to reopen.

Based on a statement by theverge.com, it seems that Netflix could allow viewers to watch shows and movies from as slow as 0.5x all the way up to 1.5x speed very soon. While not much is known in regards to when this feature will be available to Malaysians, we do know that viewers will be required to opt-in to this feature whenever they’re watching a new series or movie so that they won’t accidentally watch at a slightly slower or faster speed.

Our local cinemas may have reopened to the public in this period, but there are still some rules and SOPs to follow in order to watch inside the hall, such as needing to sit apart from each other which is understandable. Based on source code found by XDA Developers, it seems that Google plans to introduce an option for viewers to watch ads in order to unlock movies. While we have no exact numbers on how many movies can be unlocked, the source code hints that there could be several hundreds of movies available as soon as the feature goes live.
