Following the launch of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset, more brands have announced development for devices featuring it. During the launch, companies that already have plans for a device featuring the chipset were revealed and one of them is Motorola.

Rumours of the new Snapdragon chipset (including benchmarks) has been out for some time now, and it was originally believed that Qualcomm will go with the Snapdragon 875 name. But many were surprised when the company launched the new flagship chipset earlier this week with the name Snapdragon 888. Why the change in naming scheme?

During Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020, Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, which comes equipped with 5G connectivity, as well as the 6th Gen Qualcomm AI processor to aid users in various tasks. To go into more detail, the aforementioned chip is able to achieve up to 26 TOPS (tera operations per second) which is one of the highest to date.

In that sense, knowing how well the Snapdragon 775 and 875 chipsets can perform is useful.

Based on a statement by DigitalChatStation on weibo, it seems that the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset is expected to come equipped with a large core that’s capable of achieving up to 3.2GHz. While it may not perform as fast as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chipset, our source did note that the SD875 will focus more on lowering power consumption.

Qualcomm will probably launch the Snapdragon 875 and 775 chipsets sometime in December, which is why benchmarks of the former have been appearing lately. The chipset will be equipped on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 series, but sources claim that the Samsung Exynos 2100 chipset may be the superior chipset.
