Samsung Electronics has revealed a new tri-fold smartphone prototype, showcasing two separate hinge mechanisms that allow the device to open into a larger, tablet-like display of around 10 inches when fully unfolded. This move signals Samsung’s push beyond the standard foldable formats (single-hinge or flip style) into more ambitious form factors, targeting users seeking both phone and tablet functionality in one device.

For those unaware, it was reported last month that Samsung only plans to manufacture 200,000 units of its upcoming tri-fold device. Considering that the device would be more expensive to manufacture, it isn't unexpected. But what's worse is that we might not get it in Malaysia.

While foldable phones are becoming more mainstream, a tri-fold device could be the next step. According to a media outlet in Korea, Samsung Electronics could be discussing the release of an entry-level model of a flip-type product and a 'tri-fold' model.

We have seen rumour saying that Samsung will be launching a tri-fold tablet in the future. To prepare for the device, the Korean tech giant has seemingly filed a trademark for 'S Display' which could be the name of the panel that is to be used on the tablet. As reported by LetsGoDigital, the trademark was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).
