Fans of Apple’s true wireless stereo earbuds have been waiting for the tech giant to update its AirPods Pro for some time now, with a rumoured refresh never came to be over the past two years. If the latest rumour is to be believed however, the AirPods Pro 2 will be coming later this year and will feature USB Type-C.

If you haven't heard, the European Union (EU) is in an agreement that all compact gadgets should use a USB-C port. While the agreement is not fully in motion yet, that may force Apple to switch the iPhone and iPad devices from the trademark lightning port to USB-C in the future.

Two days ago, the European Union (EU) have an agreement that all compact electronic devices must use a USB Type-C charger by fall 2024. In other words, Apple must follow suit with its iPhone 16 when it hits the market in two years but it seems the UK government is not "currently considering" following EU's footsteps.

The European Commission has won the fight against smartphone manufacturers using cables none other than the USB-C. By fall 2024, all mobile phones, tablets and cameras sold in the EU must only use USB-C cable for all sorts of purposes. As most Android smartphone makers have switched over to the mentioned standard, it left Apple.

We have talked about this before, but it seems that the European Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee has voted on having a common port for all devices. In case you were under a rock, this is an initiative for all tech manufacturers to use USB C ports including Apple.

If there is one thing that Android fans don't about Apple iPhones, it is that the devices don't come with a USB-C port for years. However, that could change as the European Commission has just submitted a revised Radio Equipment Directive. This means that it will make a new standard port for all smartphones, tablets, cameras, headphones, portable speakers and even handheld gaming consoles. 

Some consumers have been wanting universal iPhone components, such as the USB-C connector. But that may not be happening in the near future. Sources claim that Apple would not equip a USB-C or integrated Touch ID button for its iPhones anytime soon.

If there's anything that Android users complain about Apple, it's the fact that the Apple iPhones don't support USB Type-C cables. But that could change if the rumours are true, as according to sources - the upcoming iPhone 11 series could be adopting a new USB-C charging port with at least 18W charging speed or even higher.
