Now that another movement control order (MCO) is in place, all of us are going to be stuck at home for another two weeks, or maybe even more. We need to be able to stay connected to the Internet in that duration, but not everyone has broadband. With that in mind, YES will be giving away free data again.

Recently, at least 30000 students from USM received free SIM which was given by the YTL Foundation and it comes with 40GB of data that’s valid for 60 days. This is extremely beneficial for the students due to the fact that the Movement Control Order is still in full effect, and will not be able to physically attend class.

Opensignal is back with another Mobile Network Experience Report, this time analysing the user experience for Malaysians when it comes to mobile networks in the country. The report covers all major mobile network operators in Malaysia including Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U-Mobile, Unifi, and Yes. Opensignal are back with their Mobile Network Experience Report for Malaysia September 2019 with the clear winner being Celcom with awards in the Latency Experience, 4G Availability and best Video Experience. Maxis maintained and solidified their position as "King of Speed" by getting awards in both Upload and Download speed while U Mobile improved leaps and bounds with 75% faster download speeds. Surprise contender Unifi stepped up offering Best Voice App experience (for when you make calls using apps like WhatsApp and so forth) but also improved in terms of video experience as well.

As promised by YTL Communications (YES) back in February 2019, the Terragraph network has been successfully installed offering free public WiFi across 50 locations. With this, this marks Penang to be the most advanced broadband state in Malaysia and they are definitely ready for 5G connectivity in the future.

While we're all still working on the eventual roll-out of 5G networks, current US President Donald J. Trump recently tweeted that he wants “... 5G, and even 6G, technology in the United States as soon as possible.” Considering that the US has just charged Huawei, the biggest provider of networking equipment in the world AND the most likely source of future 5G and 6G networks (which doesn't exist yet), for breaking US sanctions on top of banning their smartphones and other equipment from being sold in the US for years... we can't help but do a facepalm. No US networks have actually rolled out any 5G networks (while Penangites just got a taste of it with the recent YTL and Yes Terragraph trial).
