As we reported before, Apple could be changing the iOS 19 name to iOS 26 to coincide with the year. That said, the company will introduce a suite of new features for AirPods with the upcoming update.
The new features
According to this source, these enhancements aim to expand AirPods' functionality beyond audio, integrating them more deeply into the Apple ecosystem. One of the features is allowing users to capture photos with their iPhone or iPad camera by tapping the stem of their AirPods.
Additionally, Apple is reportedly developing a feature that detects when a user falls asleep while wearing AirPods and automatically pauses audio playback. And building upon existing head gesture controls, the company could introduce new gestures for AirPods as well, such as adjusting volume or managing Conversation Awareness with head movements.
Other developments
On top of that, a new "studio quality" microphone mode is in development for AirPods, aiming to improve voice clarity by reducing background noise. And to facilitate the use of AirPods in educational settings, Apple is working on streamlining the pairing process with shared iPads.
The purpose of this enhancement is to simplify device management in classrooms where multiple students use the same iPad. This can make things easier for students to connect their AirPods without complications.
By the way, Apple is rumoured to debut its first HomePad with AI functions to elevate the AI smart home experience. You can read the news about it right here. More details will be unveiled next week at the WWDC on 9 June 2025, so stay tuned for our official news coverage only at TechNave.com.
