Amazfit Active 3 Premium review – Simple, reliable, and convenient for your daily needs

The Amazfit Active 3 Premium feels like a watch that doesn't try to be a do-it-all smartwatch, and that's kind of its appeal. It focuses on the basics most people actually use day-to-day, like fitness tracking, health monitoring, and notifications, without piling on extra features you may never touch.

For your information, this watch is aimed at users who just want something straightforward on their wrist. You can wear it to the gym, at work, or even out casually without it feeling out of place or overly "techy". Design-wise, it keeps things minimal and practical. Personally, we are fans of its metallic black chassis and its smooth layout. The watch is lightweight, comfortable, and easy to wear for long hours. However, if you are a fashionista, this watch might not be your cup of tea, due to its plain and minimalistic look.

We love the simple and clean look

The charging dock can be connected via a Type-C cable

Additionally, the display is bright enough for outdoor use, and the interface is quite simple to navigate. Swiping through menus feels smooth, and there's no steep learning curve to figure things out. It's not flashy, but it's very usable. In our experience, most QoL updates and benefits work through the Zepp app, which is where all your health and activity data is collected.

Besides that, it helps that the setup is easy and quick to do. Once everything is connected, the layout is fairly easy to follow. Steps, heart rate, sleep tracking, and workouts are all shown in a way that feels organised rather than cluttered. Unfortunately, we did notice some error messages popping up from time to time. It does not affect your watch at all (as far as we are concerned), but it does make for an eyesore. Hopefully, Amazfit will patch this glitch soon.

The random error message popping up could be annoying to deal with

Otherwise, the app offers quite a thorough selection for your fitness needs

Fitness-wise, it covers the essentials well. You get heart rate tracking, sleep monitoring, blood oxygen readings, and a decent selection of sport modes. It's not really built for serious athletes. But for regular workouts, jogging, or general fitness, it does the job without any major issues. GPS performance is decent for everyday use. It's also accurate enough for casual runs or walks, but you probably wouldn't rely on it for anything highly precise or professional-level tracking. Battery life is one of its strongest points.

Based on our experience so far, the watch can easily last several days even on a single charge. This is a nice change from smartwatches that need daily charging, especially for most people (like us). So, you can just wear it and forget about it. It is also worth noting that the watch is quite water-resistant. Once, we found ourselves trapped under heavy rain (it was very bad) during our motorcycle ride home. The watch didn't just survive the heavy downpour; it still runs like nothing ever happened. It's durable, rain-proof, and lasts pretty long. So, that's a pretty interesting and reassuring thing to know.

Heavy rain? No problem

Makes for a cool accessory too

However, it does have a few limitations. You don't get advanced training tools or a large app ecosystem like more expensive smartwatches. Plus, notifications are also pretty basic, so you can read messages, but not really interact with them much. You might want to keep that in mind if you plan to get this model.

Overall, the Amazfit Active 3 Premium is a practical smartwatch that sticks to what matters most. It's not trying to compete with high-end models, but it offers a smooth and reliable user experience. Performance-wise, we feel the watch sits nicely between the Amazfit Active 2 and Amazfit T-Rex 3. The price for this watch starts at RM749, and we personally believe it's good value for your money. So, if you want something simple that just works without fuss, it fits that role well.
