Apple cut 10 million units of standard and Plus variants of iPhone 16

More reports indicate that some models of the iPhone 16 series aren't doing well. About two weeks back, it was reported that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus weren't meeting expectations. In fact, the sales for those two models could be worse than some may think.

According to Kuo Ming-chi, Apple has cut production of the iPhone 16 series by an estimated 10 million units. The cut primarily affects non-Pro models, specifically the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This production cut will result in a year-on-year decrease for Q4 2024, Q1 2025, and Q2 2025.

So, why aren't these two models selling well? The ban in Indonesia could be a factor, plus many prefer buying second-hand iPhones instead of new ones. While the analyst didn't discuss this, we're sure there were many factors that contributed to the lower shipments for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

As you may have guessed, the lower-than-expected sales could affect Apple's revenue, especially in Q1 2025. The iPhone SE4 is slated to launch during that quarter and could entice more Apple fans away from the iPhone 16 series. Kuo suggested that the launch of Apple Intelligence could boost iPhone shipments, but it may not happen in the short term. He also said that significant growth in iPhone shipments would require hardware innovation.

Now, the last part is something we can probably all agree on. But what else does the next mainline iPhone need to recover its brand confidence? Share your thoughts in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
