Apple iPhone 5C Officially announced

As mentioned in our Apple iPhone 5S report, the other device to be officially announced is the plastic backplated Apple iPhone 5C. Effectively replacing the Apple iPhone 5, the Apple iPhone 5C has nearly the same hardware and tech specs, including the same dual-core A6 processor and chipset, 4-inch Retina display (1136 x 640) and 8MP iSight camera. The only major hardware differences include a bigger battery, a new FaceTime HD 1.2MP front camera and the aforementioned colourful plastic backplates which come in blue, green, pink, yellow and white (sorry, no black yet). At 9mm and 132g the iPhone 5C is thicker and heavier than the iPhone 5. Other tech specs and features include 100Mbps LTE connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. While it packs in an 8MP iSight camera it probably isn't the same as the one on the Apple iPhone 5S as it has an f/2.4 aperture and only one LED flash.

The most important thing is probably the price, which is supposedly what the C in the Apple iPhone 5C stands for. According to Apple it stands for Colourful but the iPhone 5C is currently going for $99 for the 16GB version and $199 for the 32GB version, all on a 2-year US contract. With the Apple iPhone 4S currently costing RM1499 we expect the Apple iPhone 5C to hit the upper medium range price off contract as it is already priced in Singapore at SG$848 (RM2189). Malaysia release dates for the Apple iPhone 5C will likely be from 20 September 2013 to the end of the year with a pre-order period expected from 13 September 2013. Overall, it's not as cheap as we thought it would be, nor does it bring anything new to the table except for a colourful plastic backplate which Nokia already noted as being just a bit too similar.
