Today, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg revealed that Apple "just started formal development" on the MacBook Pro with the upcoming M4 chip. You would think we are getting the announcement this year, but the window will likely be in 2025 instead.
Why 2025? This is because when the M1 chip was announced in November 2020, the successor (M2) was revealed in June 2022, followed by the M3 chip at the end of October 2023. Looking at the timeline between the chips, it's roughly a year-and-a-half gap so if Apple continues this way, it will likely be released in the middle of 2025.
However, Gurman also noted that if Apple breaks the tradition and shortens the time to a year, we may have a good chance to see a new MacBook Pro M4 by the end of this year. Meanwhile, Apple just recently announced the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air with M3 chip for the Malaysian market with a starting price of RM5199.
Speaking of MacBooks, there's a rumour that Apple is also working on a MacBook with a 20-inch foldable screen. Additionally, Gurman also mentioned that the ill-fated Apple Car used to have a chip equivalent to four M2 Ultra chips together. It had a safetyOS system but he didn't elaborate further.
