Earlier, it was reported that replacing the iPhone 13's screen with third-party vendors would stop Face ID from working. That has, of course, led to complaints from the independent companies that provide iPhone repair services. However, Apple might have compromised and promised to remove the restriction with an upcoming software update.

The reason that causes Face ID to stop working after replacing the screen is Apple has added a small microcontroller that can pair the device with its display. Therefore, only Apple has the special tools to pair the microcontroller with the new screen during the replacement, and third-party service providers don't really have access to those tools.

It's still unclear when Apple will roll out the software update that removes the said issue. According to the source, iOS 15.2 is currently in Beta testing, so the update is expected to come with it. Furthermore, it's also mentioned that Apple has been implementing this technology since the iPhone X, but the company never activated it until now.
