Best broadband plans for those on a budget as of March 2023

As usual, the last of our trio of monthly articles is the one for broadband plans. While broadband plans are less likely to see changes on a more frequent basis, Celcom and Digi's home fibre plans merging was pretty big news (which we covered). But enough about that, here's our summary of the best broadband plans for the budget-conscious as of March 2023.

Best broadband options under RM100

With the Celcom-Digi merger, CelcomDigi Fibre now becomes the highlight for the under RM100/month category. Since it's a promotional period, all CelcomDigi plans are at a significant discount. But our recommendation is the 300Mbps plan that's available for RM75/month for the first 6 months. Sure, the monthly fee will revert to RM150/month after 6 months. But it'll still qualify as an RM200/month plan, which isn't too bad. Existing Celcom or Digi postpaid customers can also sign up for the same plan and pay just RM100/month for 24 months.

Besides Celcom and Digi, the other telcos haven't changed what they offered in the last few weeks. But if you're more interested in those, you can check the list below.

Astro Fibre 50Mbps (RM99/month) - Free WiFi-6 router, first month's bill waived, 24-month contract

CelcomDigi Fibre 300Mbps (RM100/month, with Celcom/Digi postpaid plan) - Free WiFi-6 router, free installation, RM75/month for 6 months (without Celcom/Digi postpaid plan), 24-month contract

Maxis Home Fibre 30Mbps (RM89/month) - Free WiFi-6 router with EasyMesh technology, RM100 Grab e-voucher, 24-month contract

TIME Fibre Home 100Mbps (RM99/month) - Free WiFi-5 router, first month's bill waived, 24-month contract

Unifi Home 30Mbps (RM89/month) - Free router, 6-month Lionsgate Play, free speed upgrade to 100Mbps for 6 months, free 30-day trial, 24-month contract

Best broadband options under RM200

There are zero changes this month for the RM200/month category. Well, except for the Celcom and Digi plans being removed. But that's due to the official merge. As such, our recommendations remain the same.

For the maximum value, pick TIME if you live in a high-rise building (with coverage, of course). If you live in a landed house, Unifi plans are great if you want the 6-month speed upgrade. But if you're planning to enjoy 500Mbps for the long term, the Astro 500Mbps plan is the only option under RM200/month.

Anyway, you can check the list below for a quick summary.

Astro Fibre 100Mbps (RM129/month) - Free WiFi-6 router, 24-month contract

Astro Fibre 500Mbps (RM189/month) - Free WiFi-6 router, 24-month contract

TIME Fibre Home 500Mbps (RM139/month) - Free WiFi-6 router, free WiFi-6 mesh, fee at RM99/month for first 6 months, RM100 Shopee voucher (online signup only), 24-month contract

TIME Fibre Home 1Gbps (RM199/month) - Free WiFi-6 router, free WiFi-6 mesh, fee at RM149/month for first 6 months, RM150 Shopee voucher (online signup only), 24-month contract
