With an overall score of 98, the ASUS Zenfone 6 takes over the selfie king throne - taking over the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G’s spot. In terms of photo, the Zenfone 6 scores 101, a tie with the S10 5G and in terms of video, it scores 93, once again, beating out the S10 5G.
This score is achievable thanks to the device’s flip dual rear camera setup. If you aren’t up to speed, the device comes with a primary 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor and 13MP ultrawide sensor. DxOMark gave glowing reviews to the Zenfone 6’s colour rendering, white balance and exposure. Its dynamic range and focus performs remarkably due to its laser-focus and PDAF system.
In terms of portrait shots, the photos come out very natural with a realistic blur gradient, making objects more blurry the further away they are. However, the mode suffers when it comes to taking group portrait shots due to its shallow depth of field. The flipping rear camera also comes equipped with an LED flash, perfect for low light selfies. However, one drawback to the feature is that users may notice red eyes in photos.
As for camera recording, it records in 4K by default with impressive detail and low noise when recording in bright light as well as indoors. It maintains its vibrant colours, pleasant skin tones and good exposures - similar to its photos. However, it does have moments of instability when the light shifts. In terms of stabilization, it works perfectly fine for walking and shaky hands but there are occasional hiccups to the autofocus.
In conjunction with ASUS’s 30th anniversary, the company has unveiled the Zenfone 6 Edition 30 variant of the device with an exclusive design with a Edition 30 logo embossed on it and better specs with 12GB RAM + 512GB internal storage and more.
