Facebook is adding visual discovery for shopping on Instagram

Facebook is always looking for ways it can leverage its large user base. For example, there is the Facebook Shops feature released last year, which is a shopping platform. Instagram has something familiar and the company is looking to improve on it.

According to an announcement, Facebook will expand the rating and review capability for Shops on Instagram. The plan is to allow photos and videos of a product to be uploaded as reviews. This is expected to help other customers and businesses to have a visual understanding of how their products are performing.

Besides that, the company is looking to use augmented reality (AR) to provide users with a way to visually discover products. For example, customers can visualise what a product would look like before buying it. In the given scenario, you can see that the shopper got to 'try' some pants and t-shirts to see if they fit. It can also search for specific products based pictures taken by users.

Mind you, these features are probably still in the planning phase, so we don't know too much about them yet. Having said that, do you think they would be useful for you as a user or shop owner? Let us know in the comments, and stay tuned to TechNave for more news like this.
