Facebook will now provide more context on that links you share

If you're the type that likes to share news, you'll be glad that Facebook is stepping up its game in this area. Back in June, the company made it so that you'll be notified if the news you're sharing is too old. Now, you'll also get more info about the link.

Facebook announced this yesterday, confirming that the update to the feature is rolling out globally. When you share a link now, a notification will pop up telling you when the link was first shared and the source. If it's something about COVID-19, it'll also direct you to the COVID-19 Information Center. In this way, you'll be able to compare the info in the shared link with official sources first to see if it's legit and something you should share.

The COVID-19 Information Center has updated news on the pandemic

However, this notification won't appear if the link is from a credible source. For example, if you're sharing news from the Ministry of Health or the World Health Organization. Facebook said that this is because it doesn't want to slow the spread of info from these sources. Some people might get annoyed with having to click a few more buttons just to share some news, so that could be a reason.

Anyway, we think this is a step in the right direction. Knowing where a link is originally from is good, as we will know if it's legit or not. But what have you encountered these notifications when sharing links so far? If you have, let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
