Previously, we reported that Malaysia finally achieved over 80% 5G network coverage in populated areas as set by the government for 2023. Now, the Communications Ministry has also announced a new target for 2024 involving 5G network coverage at all public universities.

Announced in the same press conference where Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed our country achieved 80.2% 5G coverage in populated areas in December 2023, the Ministry is now targeting 100% 5G network coverage at all public universities nationwide. As reiterated in a Facebook post, the Communications Ministry didn’t mention any specific dates, only that it is aiming for it to be done this year.

Of course, this is actually harder than it sounds as there are still many public universities with below-par network connectivity. In fact, the government even had to utilise Starlink internet devices at campuses located in rural areas.

Besides that, 2024 will also see Malaysia shift to a dual 5G model, with a second 5G network to be announced soon. Hence, do stay tuned to TechNave for all the latest developments on this and other trending tech news.
