The Huawei Mate 20 Pro offers a new LEICA lens coupled with a 40MP + 20MP + 8MP triple rear camera setup that allows you to take photos in wide angle or 0.6X to 5X Hybrid Zoom and even all the way up to 10x digital zoom. Previously Huawei NEXT-IMAGE participants took advantage of these wide-angle and zoom features to take detailed and beautiful photos of various spots around the world.
While the new Leica wide-angle lens allows you to take photos as close as 2.5cm away it also lets you take great wide-angle shots, so some participants in particular tried out the Mate 20 Pro in 0.6X or wide-angle, 1x (normal), 3X zoom (optical) and 5X zoom (hybrid). Following in their footsteps, we also tried it out for ourselves and you can see what the pros can do and what we mostly normal photographers (no edits, no filters, everything on auto) managed to get with the Mate 20 Pro.

Clearly, having such a wide range of zooms, from wide-angle to 5X hybrid zoom, is a good thing as you have more flexibility when taking photos. So if you need to take a group photo shot but don't have much room to back up, then you can switch to 0.6X or wide-angle. Similarly, if there's something far away (like a bird or stork for example) that might get startled if you get to close (or you just can't get close enough), having a clear and detailed 5X hybrid zoom is certainly useful. The fact that you can do this without any additional lens, makes the Mate 20 series exceptional cameraphones.
In addition, the Master AI or Artificial Intelligence automatically adjusts the settings so that your photos pop regardless of what zoom you intend to use. The AI Stabilization also ensures that you don't need a tripod to take clear shots even when zooming (yes, having one would make it even clearer, but do you generally go around carrying a tripod with you? We don't).
Just so you know, the new Triple Leica rear cameras and Leica Wide-angle lens are available on mostly all the Mate 20 series including the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 X. Feel free to drop by the Huawei site to pick one up or a Huawei Experience store to try out these various wide-angle and zoom cameraphones for yourself but if you already have one and have tried it out, do let us know your results in our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com.
