Grab unveiled a plethora of features for its app that is available and coming soon to all SEA markets. Besides that, the company also announced a collaboration with OpenAI, showcasing its AI Merchant Assistant and AI Driver Companion feature.

According to Grab, the AI Merchant Assistant and AI Driver Companion are intelligent solutions that provide valuable, actionable insights to Grab partners and help them with day-to-day tasks. They were developed with AI research organisations, OpenAI and Antropic, a new strategic partner for Grab.

Grab's new AI Merchant Assistant is a chatbot powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) integrated within the GrabMerchant app. This is to provide merchants with data insights and help them handle daily tasks, which can be advantageous to small businesses that lack the resources. As a 24/7 business advisor, it can respond to varied operational and business questions with personalised recommendations, such as how to improve sales, create ad campaigns and update menus.

In addition, the AI Driver Companion features two new AI-powered solutions integrated into the Grab Driver app. This can help drivers to be more efficient and productive, such as monitoring real-time and historical data to predict where ride demand will be the highest. With that, it can guide drivers towards those hotspots more quickly and find jobs faster. So far, over 250,000 drivers across SEA use this feature every week.

Separately, the new AI-assisted voice reporting tool for drivers is also available. It leverages OpenAI's GPT-4o to accurately differentiate types of road incidents and conditions from driver reports.
