Previously, we reported that Apple has moved a portion of its manufacturing for the iPhone 14 series to India as part of its effort to move production away from China. Now, a new report suggests that the tech giant is further investing in India, as half of all iPhones are expected to be manufactured in the country by 2027.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, while India is currently only manufacturing less than 5 per cent of iPhones in the world, it is forecasted that the country would assemble 25 per cent of total iPhones worldwide by 2025. Moreover, according to Luke Lin, an analyst at the research unit of Taiwan’s DigiTimes newspaper, India will manufacture one in two of the world’s iPhones in 2027.

While China is still Apple’s main manufacturing hub, recent Covid-19-related disruptions in the assembly line and rocky US-China ties have made the tech giant move production away from the country. Speaking of which, Vietnam is also benefitting from this move by Apple.

In fact, Chinese suppliers are already feeling the effects of Apple’s plans to shift manufacturing out of the country. For example, Goertek, which has been making acoustic parts for Apple’s AirPods earbuds and other devices in eastern China’s Shandong province for two years, has reportedly slashed its 2022 earnings estimate by 60 per cent.
