Is the dual screen LG G8X ThinQ better than foldable devices?

LG has come into the IFA 2019 with a different approach to foldables by announcing the LG G8X ThinQ that comes with a new revised version dual-screen snap-on case. With Samsung's second attempt on the launch of Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s coming Mate X, other foldable devices have yet to reach the masses in 2019, so perhaps the LG G8X ThinQ might offer an alternative?

The newly revised dual-screen case is now equipped with a USB-C connector instead of the old pogo pins. Other than that, the secondary screen is now the same size as the primary device, with a 360-degree full tilted 6.4-inch FHD+ display. It still uses the primary device to power up the secondary screen but with a longer screen time display this time around.

The Dual-Screen looks identical with the primary display

The function of the second screen is very useful for those who are always in need of multitasking which is accessible from the quick settings menu. There is also a setting for you to set a specific app to turn on automatically whenever the second screen turns on.

In terms of the tech specs on the G8X, it comes with the 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED screen display mentioned above, an in-display fingerprint scanner and features a Snapdragon 855 chipset, up to 128GB storage, 6GB RAM and a 4000mAh battery with a dual fast charge 4.0 and wireless charging support.

LG G8X ThinQ Dual Camera Setup

As for the camera setup, it has a 12MP + 13MP rear camera setup as well as a 32MP front-facing camera sensor. As far as the hardware shows, LG has now put more effort into their software modes such as the AI Action shot, improved video stabilization on the sensor level. For those who like to record yourself eating a crunchy fried chicken to show your friends, the new ASMR mode might be your favorite as it makes the microphone three times more sensitive than the normal ones.

Regardless, there’s no information on the Malaysia release date and local pricing for the device so you'll likely have to keep watch on third-party sellers if you want to try it out.
