The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (K-KOMM) yesterday denied the authenticity of an alleged PerantiSiswa application link which has gone viral on social media. Instead, the ministry stresset that the website is only an unofficial individual website and not from any official channel.

K-KOMM secretary-general Datuk Seri Muhammad Mentek further clarified that the application system for PerantiSiswa is currently under development. It will only be launched this 15 April.

According to national news agency Bernama, Mohammad Mentek was responding to a viral social media post with the caption “Terbaru: Permohonan bantuan laptop dan tablet dibuka pada 15 April ini!” or translated to English as “Latest: Laptop and tablet assistance applications open on April 15!”. The link is still up and running here with its misleading title.

In the statement yesterday, K-KOMM also advised the public to not easily believe information that has gone viral on social media. Instead, K-KOMM urged Malaysians to be responsible digital citizens by referring to official sources to get authentic information.

PerantiSiswa Keluraga Malaysia is an initiative under Budget 2022 that would benefit around 400k Malaysian students from the B40 group. It offers a free mobil devices and internet access for eligible students to help in their studies.

Previously, K-KOMM Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa gave a sneak peek at the tablet that will be distributed under the programme via his Twitter account. The official application for PerantiSiswa is expected to open this 15 April.
