Kirin 1020's performance expected to be 50% better than Kirin 990

Huawei's Kirin 990 chipset may be a powerful chipset, but the company probably won't be able to advance much beyond what they can currently do with the 7nm process. Instead, Huawei decided to move to the 5nm process for the rumoured upcoming Kirin 1020 chipset, codenamed 'Baltimore'.

According to Gizmochina, the Kirin 1020 chipset will feature Cortex-A78 CPU cores. These are expected to deliver up to 50% more performance compared to the Cortex-A76 CPU cores of the Kirin 990 chipset. That's a significant upgrade and could enable developers to build more complex apps. As for the GPU's specs, we haven't heard anything on that yet. However, we're hoping for an equally big jump over the current chipset's 16-Core Mali-G76 GPU.

With this big of an upgrade, would it convince you to upgrade from a current gen device? Let us know on our Facebook page, and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news like this.
