When the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced free 1GB of mobile data per day, it was a move that many welcome. But many people are hoping for more, including an MP in Sabah, who has called for telcos in Malaysia to provide unlimited mobile data during the movement control order (MCO).

According to the Daily Express, Sepanggar MP Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman hopes can assist the government with this as part of their corporate social responsibility. He cited the difficulties in online learning for rural areas, as 1GB per day (from 8 am to 6 pm) is just not enough. The Sepanggar Parliamentary has been conducting online surveys for the area and found that many people are unable to buy more data when they run out, as they have to prioritise the purchase of daily essentials.

Not having any data left also means that these people are unable to access info portals like news sites or the CoronaTracker. In other words, they won't be able to closely follow the COVID-19 situation in our country. Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman believes that this can all be solved by the big telco companies taking the burden of providing unlimited mobile data.

From a consumer's perspective, the MP's suggestion is an appealing one. However, we also have to consider that the telcos could lose a lot of revenue because of it. What do you think about this? Should it be unlimited as the MP suggests or would you be okay if they just raised the cap? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
