According to The Star, Malaysians will soon be able to verify their eligibility for the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) petrol subsidy online, starting 25 September 2025. The move is intended to streamline access and reduce friction ahead of the subsidy’s full rollout.
How the Online Check Works
Through the official portal budimadani.gov.my, which will go live on the same day, users will enter their MyKad number to check if they qualify for the subsidised RON95 rate. If eligible, users will access the subsidy via three essential steps: MyKad verification, payment, and refuelling. A one-time activation is required when using the system for the first time.
Verification is not limited to the web. At petrol stations, MyKad terminals will be deployed at pumps or over the counter. Users can also verify their accounts via selected e-wallets and mobile apps provided by fuel companies.
Cap and Rationale
Under BUDI95, eligible Malaysians can purchase up to 300 litres of RON95 per month at a fixed price of RM1.99 per litre, starting 30 September. The monthly limit was informed by data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan explained that while a lower cap (e.g. 140 litres) would cover about 90% of Malaysians, the 300-litre limit was chosen to ensure 99% inclusion. He also confirmed that there is no restriction on how many times a Malaysian can refuel at a petrol station a day (for now), but the government will monitor for any power abuse.
