The 5G network rollout in our country has been relatively successful, albeit not as straightforward as Malaysians would’ve preferred. Case in point, the government recently announced that it will move from a single 5G network to a dual model after the former’s coverage reaches 80% of populated areas.

This move was supported by almost all Malaysian telco companies, including Maxis, which to this day never actually signed the 5G agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB). As such may change soon though, as its CEO Goh Seow Eng has reiterated the company’s commitment to sign the agreement.

As reported by Bernama, Goh confirmed the matter during a panel discussion titled “Rethinking the 5G model - Building Tomorrow’s Infrastructure, Today” at Invest Malaysia Series 2 conference in Kuala Lumpur today. However, the Maxis CEO didn’t reveal when the agreement would be signed.

Instead, he stressed that it is not a matter of Maxis not signing the agreement as it is pretty much confirmed. However, the 5G network coverage itself is still an issue, something which all stakeholders need to work together to overcome.

During the same conference, Communications and Digital (KKD) Minister Fahmi Fadzil also announced that Maxis will be signing the agreement soon. Well, do stay tuned to TechNave for the latest development on this and for other trending tech news from Malaysia and beyond.
