Rumours of MediaTek's next chipset has been around since November 2020. Allegedly, the chipset will be on par with the Snapdragon 865 and will launch on 20 January 2021. At first, it was believed that MediaTek would only launch one, but now there are hints of another chipset.

According to Digital Chat Station, this Dimensity 1100 is a cut-down version of the Dimensity 1200 chipset. The leaker previously mentioned that the latter has a 1+3+4 CPU core setup, with clock speeds at 3GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2GHz respectively. On the other hand, the Dimensity 1100 runs a 4+4 configuration with clock speeds at 2.6GHz and 2GHz.

Besides that, it's expected to have a lower GPU clock, lower APU performance, and lower maximum refresh rate for the display. Basically, it's like the difference between the Snapdragon 865 with the Snapdragon 865+. They're basically the same, with minor differences in specification. It should also be noted that these chipsets are intended to be mid-range options.

Of course, we do want to remind you that the details above are unconfirmed, so take them with a grain of salt. Having said that, on a scale of 1-10, how excited are you for a mid-range chipset that can compete with last year's flagship?
