When people look back to 2020, many would remember how the world slowed to a crawl. This is true also for cloud-driven platforms, which have started to delay updates or reduce the quality of services to conserve bandwidth. YouTube did this last week when it reduced the default video quality to 480p and now Netflix is following suit.

Netflix first announced this a few days ago, with Europe being the first region to see image quality for Netflix content being reduced. As you suspect, this is to lower the amount of bandwidth being used. The company has confirmed that Malaysia will now see the same measure applied to both Ultra HD and HD videos. It's estimated that this will help decrease the network traffic in Malaysia by up to 25%.

Of course, you can still enjoy your favourite shows in UHD and HD. However, those with discerning eyes will probably notice that image quality has been affected. Netflix announced that the measure will be in effect starting 31 March and will last for 30 days, which would mean that things should go back to normal on 29 April 2020.
