Qualcomm recently announced their Snapdragon 7C Gen2 compute platform for upcoming entry-level Windows and Chromebook devices. Continuing on from their previously announced Windows on Snapdragon set of mobile compute platforms, the 7C Gen2 promises better native camera and audio performance while maintaining Qualcomm’s always on, always connected features.
Building upon the 7C Gen1, the 7C Gen2 will have an updated Spectra ISP which may deliver better native camera performance, perhaps for webcams or front cameras. The 7C Gen2 is also expected to offer much longer battery life (up to 19 hours continuous use) along with 4G LTE connectivity. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details yet, but Qualcomm says that commercial products are expected in summer or Q3 of 2021 starting from $349 USD (~RM1446).

According to benchmarks during the briefing, the 7C Gen2 looks to position itself somewhere above the Intel Celeron and a bit below Intel Core i3 powered devices. So far, we’ve only managed to try out the SD850 via the JOI Book 3000 but if the 7C Gen2 does arrive for Chromebook laptops and tablets in Malaysia it could offer a timely device for the current economic pandemic (that is if brands maintain entry-level prices of course).
So, what price point would you be interested in for a Qualcomm 7C Gen2 powered Windows or Chromebook laptop or tablet? We’re hoping that brands go for below RM1K or at most below RM1.5K but what do you think? Let us know on our Facebook page and stay tuned to TechNave.com
