Rumours: The future features of Apple iPhone 8?

When the Apple iPhone 7 was released last week, the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack may actually be just the beginning of what the 10th Anniversary iPhone would look like, along with the introduction of the new glossy Jet Black body and home button haptic design. We are going to take a look of what we can expect of the iPhone 8 next year, but of course, don't take it from us as we are just speculating and take them with a grain of salt.

Brighter and beautiful screen

If you've read about Apple adopting AMOLED screens, it might seem that they are already preparing it for next year's iPhone 8. If we look at the Apple Watch Series 2, the new screen technology is offering 1000 nits of brightness, that's twice the amount from its predecessor (450 nits). At the moment, the iPhone 7's LCD screen is 625 nits, but it's still no OLED display. So there's a good chance that we might see brighter display on next year's iPhone.

Button-less

The current iPhone 7 has a new and intelligent home button that has a haptic feedback, this actually looks like that Apple is in progress of perfecting the technology by integrating the button in the screen, with the system being able to tell apart from home button presses and 3D Touches, the fingerprint sensor is likely to be integrated on the screen as well.

Should Apple use a new dual curved display for the next iPhone, it's possible to see all the power, volume, and the mute buttons be removed and put on the screen as virtual buttons.

Ceramic body material?

Rumours of Apple going back to a glass body design is not new, but it also makes sense since aluminium cannot be improved further. But Apple could also turn to ceramic design, which is evident on their Watch Series 2. Apple analyst, Brian Roemmele has this to say:

“There will be ergonomic curves that will mold into the new AMOLED display being driven by video chips that simply could not have thermally operated in such a small space without heat efficiency of Zirconia Ceramics. The iPhone 8 will not just be water resistant but waterproof and dust proof to a level never seen before on a smartphone. The lightning port will look more like the Mag-Safe system used on the MacBook Pro devices [9] and mostly use inductive charging. Of course, there will be no 3.5mm audio jack.”

Waterproof instead of water resistant

That being said, the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack has finally allowed the iPhone 7 to be water resistant, but if Apple really succeeded in removing all the buttons and turning them into pressure sensitive virtual buttons, a waterproof smartphone is possible, and Apple might be able to do so.

Wireless Charging

Yesterday, we reported that Apple is already secretly working on a wireless charging technology for years. According to Phil Schiller, Apple may actually have set the trend of a wireless future, since the headphone jack is already dead, don't be surprised to see the Lightning port gone too when wireless charging technology is available.

More power

The introduction of the A10 Fusion chip is currently the most powerful smartphone, the fact that it can play console-level games is a testament of that. The crazy thing is that, even without moving from 14/16mn chip design from the iPhone 6s and it's already 40% faster in terms of CPU processing power and 50% faster in GPU. Reports have it that TSMC will provide 10nm chips for Apple next year, so imagine the possibilities.

Dual cameras producing 3D images?

Lastly, now Apple have jumped on the bandwagon of using dual rear cameras, they could actually explore other possibilities of using two lenses, 3D camera perhaps? Nobody knows, but multiple companies are innovating the technology like Huawei, Google and Lenovo, Apple wouldn't be so different and could show us something exciting.
