Recently, Starlink has become a hot topic among Malaysians. First, there was the online meeting between Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and the CEO of Starlink Elon Musk. And now, Starlink is about to come online in Malaysia.
The Prime Minister also requested the government to purchase Starlink’s satellites for IPTAs last week. As of now, Starlink has yet to operate officially in Malaysia. However, recent updates from Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital of Malaysia, suggest it is coming soon.

The minister has granted the Network Facility And Service Provider license to Starlink. This allows the company to operate legally in Malaysia. While some might be surprised by this update, it is to be expected because of the pre-orders for Starlink’s services since May 2023.
Fahmi also claimed that Starlink’s internet services can be installed in rural areas. This is similar to an initiative done by a local internet service provider, ConnectME NOW.
