As you know, electronics require microchips. TSMC has been a leader in this area has kept ahead of rival Samsung for the past few years. Although Samsung could be ready for the transition to 3nm soon, it looks like major companies like Apple may still choose TSMC for 3nm and even 2nm chips.

According to Wccftech (via DigiTimes), TSMC may already have secured orders from Apple for chips manufactured on the 2nm node. If this is true, TSMC's track record and development speed must have given a lot of confidence to other companies, for Apple to decide this early. The company's 3nm node is expected to be ready by 2022, while development for 2nm has been planned as well.

Apple has been ordering all of its chipsets from TSMC in recent months, which means less business for them. It doesn't help that Samsung already lost out last year when Qualcomm decided not to give Samsung any orders for Snapdragon 865 chipsets. Samsung has been working hard to catch up, however, and will allegedly skip the 4nm process so that it can have its 3nm process ready by 2021.

For consumers like us, it's uncertain what kind of impact we would see from Samsung constantly being on the backfoot. Perhaps we'll keep seeing lacklustre Exynos chipsets? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and stay tuned to TechNave.com for more news.
